"For anybody with an interest in music, Canal Street doesn't cut it, with Drive-By-Tanning victims pouting to Generic House. Here, however, it's Le Tigre, The Kaiser Chiefs and Green Day. Hole are cannonised; Deborah Harry is Yoda. There really is no better sound to ricochet zealously around to when Greenwich WKD Time kicks in." – Attitude Magazine
"Manchester's most up-for-it party crowd"– Manchester Evening News
The original indie kid knees-up, Poptastic has been causing coltish students to imbile enough Alka Seltzer to floor King Kong for ten years now. Wednesday morning lectures simply wouldn't feel the same without that hangover.
Held in the Alter Ego, this legendary night of unabashed revelry is split into two rooms. The Kitsch Bitch Lounge sees up-for-it spunks spilling their drinks while scrambling onto the dancefloor when they hear the dance-raid siren of Kylie. Pumping out pop for you heart and hips, it's the place to shamelessly flaunt those dance routines to timeless floorfillers from the '80s to the present day. Prepare to shuffle round your handbags to the likes of Her Madjesty, Bananarama, Tiffany and Girls Aloud. And remember, the last one to the dancefloor is Nicola Roberts!
Budding Kate Moss's should make a beeline for the Indie Playground which provides Manchester's best – not to mention only – gay alternative night. Indiesters, riot girrls and electro-lovers can cast a Kohl'd eye over each other to a peerless soundtrack of anthems by the likes of Pulp, Le Tigre and Placebo. Rock kids are in nirvana, as you'll hear classics by the likes of Garbage and NIN. Always ahead of the game, you won't miss out on the latest bands to get your Converses set to "dance", whether it's from the Arctic Monkeys, Hard-Fi, Scissor Sisters or even that Erol Alkan remix of Franz Ferdinand.
Each club-goer is awarded a fabled shag-tag; which can act like chat-up stabilisters. With cheap drink offers (Cheeky Vimtos are the house specialty. It's Charlotte Church's favourite drink, but don't let that put you off) gushing forth, Poptastic provides an unbeatable night out.
Just make sure you have the Alca Seltzer handy on Wednesday morning.
TWO ROOMS: Pop czar DJ John Hamilton ramping up the revelry in the Kitsch Bitch Lounge; DJ Jeff providing an unbeatable alternative soundtrack in the Indie Playground.
