Held at Nottingham’s only gay club, Poptastic offers a monthly riot of pop versus indie that’s always more packed than Justin Timberlake’s pants. In the main room, our well known DJs are playing the tunes that you want to shimmy to! The shimmering’n’simmering soundtrack of Kelly Clarkson, Beyonce, the Houston We Call Whitney, Girls Aloud, as well as all the hottest chart tunes. Upstairs, DJ Puff Punk offers an NME-recommended platter of alternative tracks. Here, Alex Kapranos is King; Kathleen Hanna and Morrissey are fighting over who gets to be Queen. Indie-kids can zealously shake their fringes to classic anthems by the likes of Blondie and The Cure. As for emo-lovers, prepare to dance around your rucksacks to the best from artists such as Panic! At The Disco. If you like harder stuff, you won’t leave disappointed, with Hole and NIN getting even the staunchest wallflower ricocheting around like Boggle Dice. Coupled with the fiercest electro and whatever else is taking the alternative world by storm, there really is no excuse to be holed up at home watching repeats of Friends on a Friday night.
