Poptastic History

Looking back over its ten year reign as the UK’s most popular gay clubbing destination, it’s hard to believe that Poptastic came into being as a one-off event in the basement of Blooms Hotel in Manchester. Promoter and ‘Mr Poptastic’ Jon Hamilton wanted to offer an alternative to Manchester’s house-obsessed, muscled-up Gay Village and hit on the unthinkable – a clubnight where Indie Kids and Pop Queens came together to dance, drink and get leathered while dancing their favourite tunes.
They said it would never work.
Ten years on, Poptastic has branched out and holds regular residencies across the UK, with several more planned for 2007 / 2008. Whether it be sailing down the Manchester Ship Canal on HMS Poptastic, taking over Heaven London or honouring the clubs patron saint with a one-off night of Kylie Pop, the Poptastic Army have proved that not only can you make the unthinkable happen; you can have an amazing time doing it.
Poptastic is queer clubbing!
